Chronic pain
Some trial evidence, usually modest
- In the German data
- Main reason in 76.4% of records (12,842 of 16,809). By far the most common reason.
- What the research shows
- A 2021 BMJ meta-analysis of 32 randomized trials found non-inhaled medical cannabis probably gives a small improvement in pain, and very small improvements in physical function and sleep, compared with placebo. A Cochrane review of neuropathic pain concluded the potential benefits might be outweighed by potential harms.
- Keep in mind
- Dizziness, drowsiness and trouble concentrating were more common than with placebo.
- Most trials ran only weeks to a few months.
