Coronary heart disease
Little support, negative trials or risk only
- Burden in Australia
- Ranked 1 of 220 diseases and injuries: 8.9 healthy years of life lost per 1,000 people (age-standardised DALYs, 2024).
- What the research shows
- No trial was located showing that cannabis prevents or treats coronary heart disease. A 2025 meta-analysis of 24 observational studies estimated higher risks of acute coronary syndrome and cardiovascular death in cannabis users, and the American Heart Association notes that many concerning effects of cannabis are cardiovascular.
- Keep in mind
- The research here is about risk, not treatment.
- Do not use cannabis in place of proven heart treatment.
